Good Bye Tim and Tracy - Wish We Could Go . . .

As many of you know, long time members Tim and Tracy Sowell are taking their two boys and leaving on an adventure of a life time. They are sailing back to Australia to live.

Their plan is to spend the next several years working their way south and then making the crossing to the many Pacific islands before landing in the “land down under”. The first leg of this journey is from Newport to La Paz Mexico. Ed Quesada and Steve Ellsworth will be helping Tim take the boat on this leg while Tracy does a little snow skiing and visits with friends and will fly down to La Paz to meet the boat. The plan is to leave Newport on Sunday the 3rd of January 2010(weather permitting).

South Shore will have a small party at the club on Saturday night the 2nd of January at 6:30 pm to say good-by. This will be a very casual affair with some appetizers and a cake. Please stop by to wish them well.
We are also asking everyone with boats to come out on Sunday morning at 10am to follow Gijima out of the harbor in a little farewell parade. Please let me know if you will be able to make the party and/or the boat parade.

Remember, there are two parties. One on the opening day, Dec 16 and also one on Saturday, December 19. Also of note is the Board of Directors would like to proceed with the commissioning of a bronze plague identifying South Shore Yacht Club at the entrance to our building that we share with Newport Beach Yacht Club. A proposal was presented to give South Shore Yacht Club members an opportunity to participate in this project that would likely be a Legacy Event of historical significance for our Yacht Club. The required investment for the SSYC bronze plague is approximately $750. If the contributions of our members average $25 or more, we would hopefully have the plague manufactured and installed in time for the Commodore’s Ball. We encourage all members to contribute towards the purchase of our beautiful bronze plague by sending a check to South Shore Yacht Club and writing the word “Plague” on the note line of the check”. You can mail checks to the same address that you send your dues, or drop off a cheque at the party.
