Club History
Originally called South Shore Sailing, the club was founded in 1957 by 37 members who share a mutual enthusiasm for sailing and competition. South Shore leased its first port on the Newport Beach waterfront in 1959 and joined the Southern California Yachting Association in 1960.
The club has grown considerably over the years. The port was replaced by a major facility and the South Shore Sailing Club was renamed South Shore Yacht Club --- now recognized as one of the major yacht clubs in Southern California.
SSYC members consist of sailboaters, cruisers, racers, powerboaters and non-boaters. Over the years, SSYC members enjoyed the use of its exclusive clubhouse and facility in Newport Harbor. In October 2004, SSYC relocated to its new clubhouse and facility at 1099 Bayside Dr. in Newport Beach . The clubhouse is conveniently located on the corner of Jamboree Rd. and Bayside Dr. - just a short walk to historic Balboa Island.
