CREW OF TWO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS JULY 27 & 28, 2002 Organizing Authority: South Shore Yacht Club List of Racers (posted 7/26/02) RULES (Revised 6/30/02) The race will be governed by the 2001-2004 Racing Rules of Sailing; the prescriptions of U.S. Sailing; the Notice of Race; the Sailing Instructions; and any other applicable rules. In the event of conflict, the Sailing Instructions shall prevail. FLEETS AND CLASSES This race is open to the following fleets. PHRF Cruising Classes ORCA CONDITIONS FOR ENTRY At least one of the co-skippers of each boat shall be a member of a yacht club recognizes by USSA. All entrants in a PHRF class shall be a member of PHRF of Southern California and have a current valid rating certificate. Cruising class entrants need not be members of PHRF and will have a rating assigned by SSYC. ORCA racers must have a valid rating as published in ORCA'S cross reference list. A completed entry form must be submitted by Wednesday July 24th, however, at its discretion, late entries may be accepted by the Race Committee. ENTRY FEES The entry fee is $60.00 per boat if received by July 19. After that the fee will be $70.00. The entry fee entitles each boat to two souvenir T-shirts and raffle tickets. Make checks payable to South Shore Yacht Club. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS/NOTICE TO COMPETITORS Sailing Instructions will be available on the SSYC Web site www.SouthShoreYC.org and at the club during normal hours the club is open after July 1st. 2002. Changes to the Sailing Instructions and/or Notices to Competitors will be posted on the Race Bulletin Board at the Club no later than 9:00 A.M. on race day. Changes will be signalled by flying Code Flag "M" from the SSYC flagpole. CLASS BREAKS Class breaks will be posted at the Clubhouse by 1600 hours on Thursday July 26.
EQUIPMENT All boats must carry at a minimum all the equipment required by PHRF for a Category 2 Race. Self Steering Gear is allowed. Each co-skipper is unconditionally responsible for the sea-worthiness of his or her boat and must take full responsibility for his or her action in undertaking this race. This re-enforces Rule 4. START The Start will be between an orange flag on or near the Committee boat and an orange flag located approximately 200 yards West of the Balboa Pier. COURSES TO BE SAILED The race will start off the Balboa pier. PHRF classes will round Catalina Island to Port. The race handicap distance for PHRF classes is 90 miles. Cruising classes will round Ship Rock to port. The race handicap distance for Cruising classes is 63 miles. NOTE: AVOID THE REEF IN THE VICINITY OF SHIP ROCK.
FINISH LINE The Finish will be between an orange flag on or near the Committee boat and a yellow inflatable located approximately 200 yards West of the Balboa Pier. FIRST WARNING SIGNAL AND FIRST START The warning signal for the first start will be at 1155 hours on July 27, 2002. The start of PHRF Class 1 will be at 1200 hours on July 27, 2002. All starts will be in accordance with RRS 26 Starting System. STARTING SEQUENCE CLASS FLAG (INTERNATIONAL CODE) PHRF Class A Numeral 1 PHRF Class B Numeral 2 PHRF Class C Numeral 3 PHRF Class D Numeral 4 Cruising Class A Numeral 5 Cruising Class B Numeral 6 ORCA Numeral 7 Watch for your class flag. If a class is omitted your class will move up in the starting sequence and you may be starting before you had planned. CLASS ASSIGNMENTS Class assignments and a list of competitors will be posted at the Club by 1600 hours on Thursday, July 25th. Class breaks will also be displayed on the starting boat. Boats racing in PHRF classes must submit a valid PHRF certificate with their entry. The race will be sailed using the RLC rating. Cruising boats must rate above 120 and will be rated using the RLC rating with the non-spinnaker offset. Cruising boats without a valid PHRF certificate will be assigned an arbitrary handicap by the organizing authority.
CRUISING CLASSES - ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS CRUISING CLASS HEADSAILS Cruising class entrants may not use spinnakers or gennakers
ENGINES Engine use is not allowed after the warning signal until a boat has cleared the Finish Line. TIME LIMIT The Time Limit is 1700 hours July 28, 2002. All boats not finishing within the time limit will be scored Did Not Finish. This changes RRS 35. PROTESTS Protests must be filed within one hour after the finish boat docks at SSYC. Forms will be available at the Club. Appeals of protest decisions shall not change awarding of trophies. PENALTIES Scoring Penalties will be used for Part 2 RRS violations. 20% will be added to the elapsed time of a boat found in violation of a rule of Part 2. except that no boat may benefit from such violation. In case of collision, this exception may be waived by the Protest Committee if serious damage has occurred. This modifies RRS 44. SCORING SYSTEM The Low Point System for scoring as defined in Appendix A of the RRS will be used for scoring. TROPHIES Three trophies will be awarded to the first three finishers in each class with six or more starters on corrected time. Identical trophies will be awarded to each co-skipper. Trophies will be presented at the Club House at 1830 on Sunday July 28. |
